Brother Philip (Phil) Johnson joined the Brothers in the early 60's just as society and the culture were beginning to undergo radical change. While society in general were feeling the upheaval of change, that change was also being felt by religious communities. The Director of Scholastics, Brothers in college, was a strong influence on the young men in formation. His sense of social justice and service to the poor were definitely influences on the way Brother Philip Johnson would understand his faith and his service in the Church. They continue to be shapers of Phil's perspective about Church and society. Phil has always been kind and helpful. His assignments in the schools of the Midwest always included some form of counseling and service in campus ministry and that continues to be true as he continued ministry at Lewis University both as teacher and part of the campus ministry team. In addition, Brother Philip worked with the vocation team, traveling to various college campuses to meet with young men who had expressed interest in becoming Brothers. Anyone who spends time with Phil, either in his community or on the Lewis faculty and staff, or the students, get his full attention and compassionate concern.
