Mission Driven Governance
The Midwest District prioritizes strong, value-driven governance. Through ongoing training, we empower governing boards to ensure Catholic and Lasallian tenets remain at the heart of affiliated ministries.
What is Mission-Driven Governance?
Mission-Driven Governance (MDG) was adopted by the Midwest District to maintain and continue the Catholic, Lasallian mission and identity of its apostolic ministries at the Board of Directors/Trustees level. MDG is a ministry of service, a collaborative effort on the part of the province with its lay collaborators to embody the characteristics that make those educational ministries distinctly Lasallian.
What is Formation for Mission?
Formation for mission in the Midwest District is found in four programs for Board members seeking to serve as a member on the ministry’s Board of Directors/Trustees. These programs are:
- Summit – The Summit is held every three years, typically in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Lasallian Association for Secondary Schools Chief Administrators (LASSCA). This program is the hallmark gathering of Board members and chief administrators from ministries throughout the Midwest District.
- Workshops – When initiated in the summer of 2025, the annual Summer Workshop will become the premier gathering of Boards and chief administrators of the Midwest District.
- Seminars – The Fall and Spring Seminars are the point of initial Lasallian and mission-based governance for newly appointed Board members.
- Meetings – The regular meetings of the ministry Boards will include a Lasallian and mission-based governance formation piece. The Member representative or the Visitor designee is the Brother or lay partner who leads the Lasallian formation activity as part of every Board meeting.
