About LIFT

What is LIFT?

The Lasallian Institute for the Formation of Teachers (LIFT) is a teacher training program designed specifically for young men in college. In the United States today, only 19% of the teachers in Catholic schools are male. LIFT aims to help bridge this gap.

Based on an educational philosophy initiated by St. John Baptist de La Salle, LIFT is an opportunity that stands out against traditional pedagogical programs. For instance, each course is accompanied by a field experience, allowing students to apply what they learn in real-world settings related to the course topic. Additionally, courses and field experiences take place at various locations across the United States, as well as in Colombia and South America.

One of the most appealing aspects of the program is that students can earn 31 credits, putting them on the path to teacher licensure. Moreover, they will receive free room and board and only pay 25% of the tuition costs.

Male students at Lasallian colleges or universities can join LIFT after completing their freshman or sophomore year.

Why Me?

If you want to make a difference in young people's lives, take risks and see the benefits, and are passionate about helping others while rejoicing in their accomplishments, consider a career in teaching and coaching.

The Christian Brothers and Lasallian Partners believe that teachers play a significant role in changing the lives of the young people they serve. Male teachers are especially important, as 18.4 million children are currently growing up without a male role model. We train LIFT participants to provide diverse perspectives and positive influences as mentors, especially for male students.

Everyone has the power to inspire positive change. We know you can make a difference in the lives that need it most (including your own).

What is the Need?

The gender disparity between male and female teachers is growing. In the United States, only 24% of public school teachers and 19% of Catholic school teachers are male (K-12).

Beyond teaching, male educators also play a vital role in leading retreats, service projects, and mission trips. Most importantly, they serve as role models for what it means to be a “man for others.”

As a teacher, you have the opportunity to offer guidance, support, and encouragement to help students reach their academic potential. In turn, you can boost students' confidence by acknowledging their strengths and encouraging them to pursue their interests.

Teachers are Mentors. Coaches Change Lives.

Teachers lead by example, demonstrating qualities such as responsibility, perseverance, and respect. We have the privilege to help students identify their strengths and reach their full potential by setting high expectations, while inspiring them to believe in themselves and their abilities

Coaches, who are also teachers, impart life skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, and time management. These skills are not only crucial on the court or field, but also in various aspects of students’ lives, helping them become well-rounded individuals.
