We remember and pray for our Brother Dominic Ehrmantraut, FSC, age 83. Brother Dominic died July 10, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 63 years, he was born Frederic E. Ehrmantraut on June 4, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri. He received the Religious Habit in August 1963, in Winona, Minnesota and pronounced his Perpetual Vows – in 1971 in West St. Paul, Minnesota.
Survivors include his brothers, Wayne A. and Keith A., his sisters Lynda L. Steele Denise Wetzel, and the Christian Brothers of the Midwest.

Life
Brother Dominic (Frederick Eugene Ehrmantraut)was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and entered the Novitiate of the De La SalleChristian Brothers in 1963 in Winona, Minnesota. He died on July 10, 2026, in Bartlett,Tennessee, at the age of 83 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Memphis.
Frederick was born on June 4, 1943, one of five children of Carl A.Ehrmantraut (d. 1962) and Cecilia M. (Im)Ehrmantraut-Trog (d. 2024). He had twobrothers, Wayne and Keith and two sisters, Lynda and Denise. His family movedfrom Kansas City to St. Paul, Minnesota where he graduated from Cretin HighSchool in 1963 and later that same year entered the Novitiate of the ChristianBrothers in Winona receiving the habit on August 30, 1963. In the fall of 1964he traveled to Winona to begin his scholasticate training at St. Mary’sCollege. Brother Dominic received his B.A. in English there in 1967. In 1972 hereceived his M.A. in theology from the University of Notre Dame and his Ed. S.in Administration from St. Thomas College in St. Paul in 1978. He was awardedan honorary doctorate from St. Mary’s University in 2006. In 1968 BrotherDominic was assigned to Lourdes High School in Oshkosh, Wisconsin but thefollowing year he moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to teach at McDonnelCatholic High School. In 1970 he was assigned to Archbishop Brady High Schoolin West St. Paul. There he was named Dean of Students in 1971 and Principal in1972. He remained at Brady until 1978 when Brother Dominic was named Principalat Pacelli High School in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He served at Pacelli untilhe was elected Visitor of the Winona District in 1983 serving in that postuntil 1991 when he was named Regional Coordinator for the USA & TorontoRegion. He went to Nairobi, Kenya in 1997 as Visitor of the new District andserved in that post as Visitor and founder of the District of Lawanga until2006 when he was named Director of the Lawanga District Scholasticate. He wason sabbatical in 2006-7 at CTIE (Christ the Teacher Institute for Education)and was maned Principal in Tangaza, Kenya in 2007. He returned to the UnitedStates in 2009 and spent that year on sabbatical before accepting a position inthe Development Office at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennesseein 2010. Brother Dominic retired in 2024 in Memphis where he entered St. Luke’sCottage for memory care at Ave Marie Home in Bartlett, Tennessee. He diedpeacefully in his sleep early on the morning of June 10th at AveMaria at age 83, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for 63 years. Heis buried at Calvary Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
