Br. Rogatian Thomas

Thomas O'Hanlon was born in 1829 in Ireland. He emigrated to Canada where he entered the Brothers Novitiate at Montreal. There he received the robe and the religious name of Brother Rogatian Thomas. He taught in schools both in Montreal and Toronto and in 1863 was appointed Director of the community at Foulons in Quebec. In 1873 he was assigned to teach at the Protectory in Quito, Ecuador where he became Sub-Director and one year later, Director. Fever and illness plagued him and he was on his way home to Canada to recover when at Guayaquil, Ecuador, he and five other Brothers died. They were buried at the Port of Quito. He was fifty-one years of age, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for twenty-one years.
