Br. Nicet Joseph

Born in France in 1898, Pierre Loubet had to go abroad for his religious formation. His years in the Juniorate, Novitiate and Scholasticate were in Belgium. Brother Nicet studied English in the United States and Spanish in Mexico from 1930 to 1933, then participated in the Second Novitiate at Lembecq les Hal. He was Director of Scholastics and Sub-Director of the Second Novitiate in Rome, then returned to Rome after World War II to become Director of the Second Novitiate in 1946. In 1956 he was elected Superior General. Brother Nicet Joseph traveled widely as Superior General, participated as an observer at the Second Vatican Council, launched the Lasallian Studies program in the Institute, and established Jesus Magister Institute for theological studies of the Brothers. As Superior, he undertook the revision of The Rule. When his term ended, he served in the third world country of Burkina Faso for two years and then was called home to become Director of the retirement community in Point Saint Esprit. In 1974 he retired at Athis Mons where he spent his last years in prayer, reading, correspondence with friends and as long as he was able lending a hand in community. He was Superior General of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools from 1956 to 1966, and was 101 years old at the time of his death, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for almost 81 years.
