William Condon was born in Ireland in 1819 and emigrated to Canada where, at the age of thirty-one, sought and received permission to enter the Brothers' Novitiate at Montreal in 1850. There he received the habit of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Joakim of Jesus. He was assigned in 1851 to St. Mary's School in New Orleans. He caught the yellow fever and died on August 12, 1853, at the age of thirty-four and having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only three years.
