Br. Clement David
John Delahanty was born in 1935 in New York City and at age fourteen entered the life of the Brothers. He received the religious name of Brother Clement David and earned a bachelor's degree in English at Catholic University in 1958, a master's in 1961 and the University of Detroit and earned advanced degrees from Syracuse University in 1966 and 1972. He taught at St. Joseph's in Detroit and at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, New York, where he became Principal. He was named Dean of the School of Education at Manhattan College in New York before being named President of Lewis University in 1982. He is credited with saving Lewis University from closing! He died of lung cancer at age fifty-two, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for thirty-four years.
