Br. Ambrose Henry

Benoit was born in Gulleghem, Belgium, and emigrated to the United States with his two brothers, one of whom became a missionary priest in the western US. Benoit was born on June 27, 1827, and at age thirty-six entered the New York Novitiate where he received the robe and the religious name of Brother Ambrose Henry on March 19, 1864. He served his life as a "working Brother", two years at CBC - St. Louis, nine years at Detroit, five years at Prairie du Chien, one year at Carondelet, nine years at Feehanville and seven years at Glencoe before he retired there to the Community of Ancients where he died at age seventy-three, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for thirty-seven years.
