Br. Amateur Victor

Vital Antoine Amblard was born on May 14, 1877, in Aurozet, France. He entered the pre-novitiate program in January of 1893 and the novitiate in September in Paris, France. His first years of teaching were in his native country but in 1909 he was assigned in Mexico at Zacatecas. When the revolution of 1914 came he was forced to flee the country and found refuge at La Salle Institute in Glencoe, Missouri. In January of 1915 he was assigned to Christian Brothers High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and in August of 1916 when the New Orleans District was organized, he was sent to Las Vegas, New Mexico. Later he was one of the founding Brothers of St. Paul's School in Covington, Louisiana. In the last years of his life he was in charge of La Salle Ranch in Bernallilo. An auto accident in 1937 led to a decline in his health resulting in his death in Bernallilo at the age of sixty-one, having been a De la Salle Christian Brother for forty-five years.
