Br. William Brynda
Robert Karl Brynda was born June 17, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended high school at Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis and after graduation in 1950 he entered the Brothers of the Christian Schools Novitiate at LaSalle Institute, Glencoe, Missouri. He received the habit of the Brothers August 30, 1950 and the religious name Brother Leonard William. Over his close to 75 years as a Christian Brother, Brother William taught Spanish, Religion, and English, and administered in Christian Brothers’ schools in Missouri, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Tennessee at CBHS, New York, and New Jersey. He taught in Huehuetenango, Guatemala at the Brothers’ school. He retained a lifelong devotion to the mission of the Church in Latin America, especially its Archbishop Saint Oscar Romero and Blessed Brother James Miller, both martyrs in Latin America. Brother William entered eternal life from Ave Maria Home in Bartlett on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Brother William is survived by his Christian Brothers’ community, nephews and nieces in St. Louis, and close friends Ed and Sandy Sherry of St. Louis. A Memorial Mass for Brother William will be celebrated in the Brothers’ Chapel at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with burial in Calvary Cemetery at La Salle Retreat Center, Wildwood, Missouri.
