Br. Thomas Eugene Clark

In 1977 Tom arrived at Lewis University to enroll as a student and as a candidate for the Brothers. He completed his BA in English and Theology at Lewis University and was assigned in 1981 to Montini High School in Lombard, Illinois. A year later he made his Novitiate in Windsor, Ontario, and in 1983 began working in the District vocation office as Associate Director. In 1986 he became Director of Vocations and remained in that position until 1990. During these years he resided in the St. Benilde community in Romeoville and the Casa Miguel Community in Chicago while he continued his work toward his M.A. in Religious Studies at Fordham in New York. From 1990 to 1992 he pursued doctoral studies at the University of Southern California and from 1992 to 1994 was on a leave of absence. Tom died in the house in which he was born at his family home in Bay City after fighting a year-long battle with lymphoma, cancer. Tom elected to cease chemotherapy when he found he had little chance of beating the disease. He had requested to return to full standing in the Institute and die as a Christian Brother. Brother Thomas Johnson, Visitor, granted his request and Tom died at age thirty-six on January 19, 1995, in his fourteenth year as a De La Salle Christian Brother.
Honor a Brothers’ Legacy and support the Lasallian Mission today
Remember the Brothers who dedicated their lives to serving in our schools, educating the youth, and stewarding the Lasallian Mission for over 300 years. A gift in remembrance honors their vocation and gives the ultimate gift to today’s students.
