"Giovanni Garberoglio was born in Vinchio d'Asti, Italy, on 9 February 1871.  He spent forty years at the school of St. Pelagie in Turin as teacher, inspector, and Director.  God wanted to make use of this holy soul to graft onto the Lasallian tree a branch full of promise.  He was the founder of the 'Catechists of Jesus Crucified and of Mary Immaculate,' a Congregation for lay people.  Members of this pious union propose to live not only an authentic Christian life, but also to practice the evangelical counsels while continuing to live with their families and to practice their proper professions." He died in Turin on January 31, 1954, at the age of eighty-three, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for almost seventy years. The diocesan process was transferred to Rome on February 2, 1977.
