Br. Roman Jarosz
Brother Roman Jarosz, FSC, (88) a De La Salle Christian Brother for 68 years, entered eternal life on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from Ave Maria Home in Bartlett where he had resided since April, 2024 following a long illness.
He served and resided at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN from1995 to 2024.
He was born in Chicago, IL to John and Julia Jadwiga Jarosz on December 10,1935, and was raised in St. Hedwig Orphanage and Mercy Boys’ Home in Chicago, IL. He was the youngest of six children, all deceased at this time. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in Chicago, IL in 1955.
He entered the Christian Brothers’ Novitiate in 1956, receiving the habit of the Brothers on August 30, 1956 and the religious name of Brother Jordan Edward. He pronounced his final vows in 1962. Completing his undergraduate degree at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota and graduate degrees from DePaul University, and Loyola University in Chicago IL, Brother Roman was assigned to Brothers’ Schools in Minneapolis, MN; Kansas City, MO; Chicago, IL; Lansing, MI; Romeoville, IL; Manitowac, WI; and finally, to Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN.
An avid runner, artist, and guitar player, Brother Roman is survived by several nieces and nephews and his community of Christian Brothers.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., both in the Brothers’ Chapel at Christian Brothers High School, 5900 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN. The Mass will be celebrated by longtime chaplain and friend, Monsignor John McArthur, AFSC, at 11:00 a.m. A private burial service will take place at the Brothers’ plot in Calvary Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Brother Roman requested memorials to be given to the Christian Brothers’ Retirement Fund in care of Christian Brothers Provincialate, 7650 So. County Line Road, Burr Ridge, IL, 60527-7959.
