Brother Raymond McManaman, FSC, 95, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, at Franciscan Village in Lemont, IL. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 77 years, he was born Paul Thomas McManaman in Waukegan, IL, son of Raymond J. and Frances (Tonigan) McManaman. He entered the novitiate of the Brothers in Glencoe, MO, in 1947 and professed his first vows the following year. Brother Raymond earned his BA and MA from St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN, an MA from Seattle University, a DMin from the Aquinas Institute of Theology, and an STD from San Francisco Theological Seminary. During his years as an educator, he taught in high schools in Chicago, Wheaton and Addison, IL, in Cincinnati, OH, and in St. Louis Park, MN. In 1960 he was one of the seven original Christian Brothers to arrive at Lewis College in Lockport, IL. During his 51 years on campus Brother Raymond served as the Dean of Students, chair of the Religious Studies Department, and professor in the Theology Department. In 2016 he received the Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award. He retired in 2020. In 2021, Brother was named an Honorary Founder of Lewis University and in 2022, he celebrated his 75th jubilee as a De La Salle Christian Brother. Survivors include his brother Thomas McManaman of Oldsmar, FL, his nephew Ryan McManaman, his niece Patricia (Pat) McManaman, and the Christian Brothers.

Visitation will be held at the Sancta Alberta Chapel on the campus of Lewis University 1 University Parkway, Romeoville, IL 60446 on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 10:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the Christian Brothers of the Midwest, 7650 S County Line Road, Burr Ridge, IL, 60527.
