Br. Narcisse John

Brother Narcisse John began his teaching career in Puetla, Mexico, in 1908 and continued to serve in Mexico until 1919, when he was assigned to St. Peter's College in New Iberia, Louisiana. In 1920 he was transferred to Cathedral High School in Lafayette and was there at the beginning of the New Orleans-Santa Fe District. Considered one of the founders of the District, he continued to serve at Cathedral High School in El Paso, Texas, St. Paul's in Covington and Landry High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He taught courses in the summer at St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota, and Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1968, at the age of eighty, he requested to join the missionaries in Guatemala and served there for ten years. For health reasons he was forced to return to the United States. He died six years later at the age of ninety-five and in his seventy-eighth year as a De La Salle Christian Brother.
