Br. Liguori Edward

Alphonse J. Grote was born on July 23, 1887, in St. Louis, Missouri. At age fifteen he entered the last Juniorate at Glencoe, on May 10, 1902. Two years later he entered the Novitiate on August 11, 1904, where he received the habit and the religious name of Brother Liguori Edward. His first teaching assignment brought him to the elementary classes at Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee in 1905. He was transferred to De La Salle Academy in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1908 and a year and a half later to Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, Missouri, where he remained until he was transferred to De La Salle High School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1911. Because of failing health, he was sent to Glencoe and then to Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he died at the age of twenty-seven, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for twelve years.
