Br. Leander Joseph

Born in 1842 in England, Daniel Keating emigrated to the United States where he entered the Novitiate in New York at Second Street on August 7, 1867. The next day he was followed by his brother. Daniel was twenty-five years old when he entered and received the religious name of Brother Leander Joseph. In 1871, due to health considerations, he was sent to the Christian Brothers College in Pass Christian, Mississippi, to regain his health. He quickly recovered his health and was assigned as Director at St. Patrick's Academy in Chicago, Illinois. In December he died of tuberculosis at age twenty-nine, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only four years.
