James Joseph Kennedy was born on July 16, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of James and Marian (Birner) Kennedy. He entered the Juniorate in 1952 and graduated to the Novitiate in 1955. The following year he began his Scholasticate training at St. Mary College in Winona where he received his B.A. degree in 1959. He later received an M.A. at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin in 1974. Brother Kiaran Dominic’s first teaching assignment was at Benilde High School in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. After only one year he was transferred to Pacelli High School in Stevens Point, Wisconsin where the was to spend four years before being sent to De La Salle high School in Minneapolis in 1964. Two years later he was sent to Grace High School in Fridley, Minnesota. In 1969 after a semester at Sangre de Cristo Brother Kiaran Dominic was assigned as teacher and later principal at Pacelli High School . In 1978 he joined the staff of Dunrovin Retreat Center at Marine-on-St. Croix, Minnesota. In 1982 he was named Principal at Holy Family High School in Denver, Colorado, and in 1984 he was chosen as Superintendent of Schools for the Winona District. Four years later he accepted a job as Superintendent of Schools for the Catholic Diocese of New Ulm in New Ulm, Minnesota. In 1991 he was appointed Principal of De La Salle High School in Minneapolis and in 1993 he returned as a staff member to Dunrovin Retreat Center. From 2002 until his death in 2015 he was retired and lived at Miguel House and Central Towers Community in St. Paul. He died at age seventy-seven having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for sixty years.
