Edward Joseph McMullan was born one of two sons and four daughters of Edward and Catherine Keams McMullan in Cook County, Illinois.  Edward attended St. Patrick and St. Ailbe elementary schools in Chicago before entering De La Salle High School in Chicago.  On April 30, 1931, he entered the Juniorate program at Glencoe and four years later on June 15, 1935, Joseph entered the Novitiate, receiving the habit on August 30 and the religious name of Brother Kiaran Daniel.  In 1939 he graduated from the Scholasticate at St. Mary's College with his B.S. and in August he was assigned to teach at Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he remained until 1941.  Brother Kiaran Daniel was assigned to Boys Town, Nebraska, in 1941 and served there as a teacher and prefect until he was transferred to St. Mary's College in 1945.  In 1946 Brother Daniel was assigned St. Peter School in Jefferson City, Missouri, and in 1949 to St. George High School in Evanston, Illinois.  From 1952 to 1954 he taught at Central Catholic in Vincennes, Indiana, and as Vocation Director for the St. Louis District from 1954 to 1962 when he was appointed Principal of Bishop Noll High School in Hammond, Indiana.  One year later he received his master's degree from Loyola University in Chicago.  In 1964 he was assigned to Providence High School in New Lenox, Illinois, and one year later he was named principal there.  Six years later he was named Director of Development at De La Salle High School and returned to teaching in  1976-77 at Driscoll High School in Addison.  In 1977 he was assigned to Lewis University where he was to spend the remainder of his life working in admissions, development and eventually in retirement years.  In 1985 he and his sister, Sister Mary Eileen McMullan O.P., celebrated their golden jubilees together in Chicago.  Brother Daniel died following a massive heart attack while participating in Sunday Mass on the evening of January 26, 2003, on the campus Lewis University.  He was eighty-six years old and had been with the De La Salle Christian Brothers for seventy-two years.
