Thomas Martin Steger was born on February 24, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri, son of John and Mary Elizabeth (Drumm) Setger. He completed his undergraduate degree at St. Mary’s College in Winona and his first assignment was to St. Mary Press in Winona, Minnesota. He served sixteen years there (1958-1974) before being named President of St. Mary’s Press in 1974. He served in that capacity for the next twenty-seven years until in 2001 he was named CEO of the Press. From 2004 until 2009 he was Chairman of Corporation for St. Mary’s Press. He retired in 2009 after fifty-one years service at the Press. He remained in the Christian Brothers Community from 2009 to 2013 when he moved to Callista Court in Winona in 2013 and to St. Anne’s Home in Winona in 2015. He died on January 2016 at St. Anne’s and is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for sixty-one years.
