Br. Ignatius Francis

John McEvoy was born on March 26, 1899, in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended the Brothers' school. He entered the Novitiate and received the robe and religious name of Brother Ignatius Francis on January 27, 1915. He completed his scholastic training at Pocantico Hills, New York, and returned to the Midwest to teach, but was destined to spend most of his life in administrative positions. He was Sub-Director and then Director of Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1927 to 1935; Director of Cretin High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, 1935-36; first Director of Price Memorial High School in Amarillo, 1936-41; Director of De La Salle in Chicago, 1941-44; Director of the Juniorate at Glencoe, 1944-47; first Director of the Brothers' High School in Vincennes, Indiana and Sub-Director at Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph, Missouri, 1953-64. Brother Ignatius Francis was assigned to Bishop Kelley High School Community in 1966 and died there in 1971 at age seventy-two, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for fifty-six years.
