Br. Hilary Eugene
Joseph Prenovost entered the Brothers' Novitiate in 1906 after completing his education at De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, then a three-year commercial academy. He completed his Novitiate and a one year of Scholasticate in Glencoe, Missouri, and was assigned to De La Salle Institute in Chicago, Illinois, in 1918. He remained there until 1921 when he was assigned to De La Salle Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1923 he was assigned to Rochester's Heffron High School, in 1925 to De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, in 1926 to St. Paul, and in 1926 to St. Patrick's High School in Chicago, Illinois. The fall of 1929 saw Brother Hilary Eugene teaching in Memphis, in 1932 at Cotter High School in Winona, in 1933 at St. Patrick's High School in Chicago and in 1941 at St. Paul again. From 1950-1954 he taught at St. George's High School in Evanston, Illinois, and returned to St. Patrick's High School Community in 1954. Over the many years of his career he taught French, religion and English, was an Athletic Director and baseball coach. His remaining years were spent at St. Patrick's community until his death on February 3, 1960, at age sixty-two and in his forty-fourth year as a De La Salle Christian Brother.
