Brother Hermeus Joseph began his teaching career in New York in August of 1874.  He also taught in Jersey City, Albany and Manhattanville before assuming the directorship at Feehanville, Illinois, in August of 1904.  He served there two years before moving to De La Salle High School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1906.  He returned to St, Michael's School in Santa Fe in 1907 and died there in 1910 at the age of fifty-four and in his thirty-seventh year as a De La Salle Christian Brother.
