Br. Hector Cyprian

Born on  August 25, 1873, near Chicago at Bourbonnais, Illinois, Joseph Fraser, was  one of fourteen children.  At age  twenty-one he had already developed outstanding talents in steam fitting,  carpentry, plumbing and electricity; he entered the Novitiate at Glencoe on  August 30, 1894.  He received the habit  on December 7th and the religious name of Brother Hector Cyprian.  His tour of duty includes: Feehanville,  Illinois; Bernalillo, New Mexico; Gray Horse Indian School in Oklahoma;  Memphis, Tennessee; Chicago, Illinois; and Winona, Minnesota.  From 1911 to 1913 he assisted in the  Direction of St. John's School for the Osage Indians.  He was a skilled carpenter and much of his  skill and energy are enshrined in Glencoe in the west wing Baldwin Memorial  Hall and east wing Holy Family residence.   Brother Cyprian was in the founding community at St. Mary's College in  Winona, Minnesota.  One of his brothers  became a priest and two of his sisters became Sisters of St. Joseph.  Brother Cyprian died at age seventy-eight,  having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for fifty-seven years.
