Maurice Cashman was born in Castle Martry, Cork, Ireland, on December 1, 1808. He emigrated to the United States and at age forty-three entered the Novitiate at Cerre Street in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 16, 1851. After completion of his Novitiate he was assigned to Christian Brothers College in St. Louis where he taught for many years. He made his perpetual vows there on August 15, 1877, and remained there until his death on January 24, 1895, when he had been a De La Salle Christian Brother for forty-four years.
