Br. Clementian

In 1840 the Muth family emigrated to the United States with their infant son, Peter. In 1854 he entered the Novitiate at Montreal and a year later he was assigned to classes in Brooklyn. At age twenty he was appointed Sub-Director at the community at Second Street in New York. Soon thereafter, he was appointed Director of the Community in Yonkers, then at Rochester, then Utica and finally at Westchester. He also served at Manhattan College and at La Salle School, but in 1885 he was appointed Visitor of England and Ireland and founded the Scholasticate at Castletown. In 1890 he was named Visitor of New York and in 1891 he was appointed Assistant for England, Ireland, United States and the English Indies. In 1911 failing health caused him to resign as Assistant and he returned to the Motherhouse in Belgium where he died at age seventy-two, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for fifty-eight years.
