Br. Celerinus Andrew

Andrew Welmst Rappeaux was born on September 15, 1848, and was taught by the Brothers in Saint Louis, Missouri. He entered the Novitiate at Carondelet and received the habit there on July 26, 1868. A rich uncle twice offered him $100,000 and a palatial residence in St. Louis if he would leave the Congregation. Brother Celerinus Andrew spurned both offers with great indignation. His first teaching assignment took him to Chicago at St. Mel's. He later served in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He died on December 31, 1923, at age seventy-five, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for fifty-five years.
