Br. Candidian

John Howard was born in 1838 in Ireland and emigrated to the United States where he entered the Novitiate at Montreal at age sixteen. There he received the habit and religious name of Brother Candidian. We know little of his tour of duty except that he was the first Brother to teach in Chicago when he served as Director of old St. Patrick's Academy at Adams & Desplaines. He died at age seventy-two having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for forty-six years.
