Brother Austin - The family name of Brother Austin cannot be found in any American records. He was born in 1834 in Canada and made his Novitiate at Montreal in 1851. His necrological notice credits him with sojourns in New York at Troy and Manhattan College, in Jefferson Parish and in New Orleans, Louisiana, in Quebec and Montreal, Canada, and as Director of Novices at Carondelet from August 7 to November 30, 1870. In 1895, for reasons of health, he was called to France where he was employed at various secretarial positions. Brother Austin died on July 23, 1900, at the Ancients Community of Fleury-Meudon. He was sixty-six years old and had been a De La Salle Christian Brother for forty-nine years.
