Toussaint was born in Assumption, Canada in 1818 at age twenty-five entered the Montreal Novitiate where he received the habit of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Aurelian Dominick. He served at Saint Laurence in Montreal and then became Director of the Brothers' agricultural school for Iroquois and Algonquin children at Lake of the Two Mountains. After three years there he was assigned to the United States where he filled the jobs of teacher, bursar, and econome in Galveston in 1860, in Carondelet in 1870, at St. Patrick's High School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1878 and at St. Malachy's School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1879. He was assigned to the "Community of Ancients" in 1889 at Glencoe, Missouri. He died at Glencoe at age seventy-two, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for forty-seven years.
