Br. Abercian

Brother Abercian entered the Brothers' life at age thirty-five. He had a brother who was a Christian Brother and a sister who entered the Sisters of St. Joseph. Although he had sufficient knowledge to teach, it was "appropriately judged to apply him to manual tasks, notably, carpentry." He served in Brothers' communities and schools at Pass Christian, Mississippi; St. Louis, Missouri; Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and New Orleans, Louisiana. Brother Abercian died on January 9, 1884, at age fifty-two and in his seventeenth year as a De La Salle Christian Brother. He was the first brother buried at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, and his remains were later transferred to La Salle Institute, Calvary Cemetery in Glencoe, Missouri.
