Patrick Kane was born on March 17, 1836, and emigrated to the United States from Moneygale, Ireland. He entered the Novitiate in Montreal in 1855 at age eighteen where he received the habit of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Silverian. He taught at St. Mary's Academy in New Orleans, St. Vincent's Academy in Jefferson City, Louisiana, and at Galveston, Texas. He died of yellow fever in New Orleans at age thirty-one, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for twelve years.
