Noel Vernon Kohles was born on December 22, 1930, the son of Michael Aloysius and Marie Freis Kohles, in Oakland, California. He followed his older brother, Brother Boniface George Kohles, into the Institute by way of the juniorate, on August 17, 1944. He received the religious habit and the name of Brother Raymond Kenneth on August 14, 1948. As a member of the San Francisco District his assignments took him to Los Angeles, Fresno, Milwaukee and in the midwest to the University of Minnesota in 1960 for his advanced degree in education. He died of leukemia at age fifty, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for thirty one years.
