Br. Paul Lewis Grass
Brother Paul Grass was one of those "giants" in the Institute and certainly in the Saint Louis District which, in 1995, became part of the newly formed Midwest District. Paul was one of the many Cretin High School, in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduates to join the Brothers. He was a wonderful teacher of English and Religion, a successful choral director, board member, a scholar who contributed to the Brothers' knowledge and understanding of St. John Baptist de La Salle and a man who loved opera - including Wagner's Ring Cycle. Brother Paul Grass served the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in many ways including VP of St. Mary's University and as its Secretary General. Paul was a consummately kind man and Brother who was dedicated to his friends and the Brothers. He was intellectually curious about religion, faith, society and culture and conversation with him was always stimulating from the perspective of both the head and the heart. His insights and careful considerations were always impressive. As he began his journey into his 90th year, the health issues associated with advanced age became more obvious. The Brothers were enriched by Paul's fraternal spirit, his scholarship, and his genuine presence. We miss Paul who passed away in November 2024.
