Br. Novatian Louis
Mark Michael Cummiskey was born the son of John and Jane Leonard Cummiskey on February 11, 1844, in Duleek, Coulleath, Ireland. He entered the Novitiate on his fifteenth birthday at Montreal on February 11, 1859, and received the habit and religious name of Brother Novatian on June 12, 1859. He taught in Canada until 1883 when he was assigned to St. Raphael's school in Dubuque. Brother Novatian was assigned to St. John's School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1884 and at Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1885 and later that year in St. Louis at St. Malachy's. In 1886 he was assigned as Director of St. Bridget's and he remained there for eleven years until he was named PN Director at Feehanville. Brother was a prefect at De La Salle in Chicago in 1899 and the same year was named Sub-Director at the College in St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1904 he was transferred to California where he worked in administration at Sacred Heart School in San Francisco and St. Mary's College in Moraga. He retired to the novitiate at Martinez where he died at age sixty-five, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for fifty years.
