Br. Luperius Emery
Louis J. Barry was born on September 22, 1882, in St. Paul, Minnesota. At age sixteen he entered the Juniorate in Glencoe and advanced to the Novitiate on June 2, 1899. Louis received the habit of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Luperius Emery on February 2, 1899. He took his Scholasticate studies in Glencoe and was assigned in August of 1900 at St. Malachy School in St. Louis. One year later he was assigned to Minneapolis and in 1903 to De La Salle High School in Chicago, Illinois. Brother Luperius was assigned to teach at Christian Brothers College in Memphis in 1904 and at Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, Missouri in 1905. He was one of the four Brothers sent in 1907 to open Cathedral High School in Duluth, Minnesota. There he suffered stomach problems and did not recover from an operation to relieve his pain. He died at age twenty-eight, having been a De la Salle Christian Brother for eleven years.
