Thomas Louis Bray was born the son of Maurice and Julia Bray on August 2, 1848, in St. Louis Missouri. Thomas entered the Novitiate on June 26, 1868, at Carondelet where he received the habit of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Luperius. In November of that same year he was sent to teach at St. Mary's in Chicago, Illinois. After the great fire in Chicago on October 9, 1871, Brother Luperius was sent to Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 13th but on November 16th was assigned to Memphis, Tennessee, where he and Brother Maurelian, Brother Anthony of Rome and Brother Clement Bernward, founded Christian Brothers College. In February of 1874, Brother Luperius was transferred to the College in Pass Christian, Mississippi, and in April of that same year to Santa Fe. He died there at the age of twenty-six, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only six years.
