Br. Lawrence Philip
William C. Morgan was born on April 10, 1917, the son of Thomas and Mary Corrigan Morgan, in Chicago, Illinois. William was to be one of nine Morgan children, four of whom entered the Christian Brothers. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and entered De La Salle High School in Chicago where he met his first Christian Brother. On January 31, 1932, he entered the Juniorate at Glencoe. In June of 1935 he progressed to the Novitiate and received the habit on August 31st, receiving the religious name of Brother Lawrence Philip. He entered his Scholasticate in Glencoe after making his first vows in August of 1936. In February of 1934 Brother Lawrence Philip's younger brother, Thomas, had entered the Juniorate program and they were at Glencoe together. Brother Lawrence was injured in a truck accident and a few days later died on August 3, 1937. He was only twenty years old and had been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only four years. Later that same year his younger brother, at his robe ceremony time, requested he be given his older brother's religious name of Brother Lawrence Philip. His request was granted.
