Br. Josiah Stephen
Joseph Cassidy was born on December 18, 1871, in Waltham, Massachusetts, the son of Patrick and Elizabeth Kane Cassidy. Joseph entered the Novitiate at Glencoe at age twenty-two on August 11, 1893. He remained there until 1895 teaching in St. Louis, Missouri, until he was sent to St. Patrick's in Chicago, Illinois, and De La Salle in the same year in the same city. His tour of duty includes: Kansas City from 1896-1898 & 1903-1904; De La Salle in Chicago from 1898-1902; CBC in Memphis from 1902-1903 & 1913-1922; CBC in St. Louis from 1904-1908; St. Joseph in Missouri; St. Patrick's in Chicago; Rochester in Minnesota; and Glencoe. He was a wonderful artist and often taught drawing. He died at age sixty- having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for thirty-eight years.
