Vincent O'Connor was born the son of Bartholomew and Frances Bloomer O'Connor in Saint Joseph, Missouri, on September 9, 1910. He attended Christian Brothers High School there and at age fourteen, on June 7, 1925, he entered the Juniorate at Glencoe, Missouri. Two years later, on July 1, 1927, he entered the Novitiate where he received the habit and religious name of Brother John Mark. Brother John Mark contracted tuberculosis and entered Mount Saint Rose Sanitorium where he died at age eighteen, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only three years.
