Br. Gervald Leonard

Simon Englert was born at Obenburg, Bavaria, Allemagne, on July 3, 1840, the son of Lorenz and Cunigunda Bewerick Englert. He worked for many years and amassed a large amount of money, which he gave to his sister before he entered the Novitiate at Carondelet on December 6, 1867, at age twenty-seven. In November he received the habit and the religious name of Brother Gervald Leonard. He served his life as a "working" Brother, and was assigned at St. Patrick, St. Louis, Missouri 1868-1874; at Carondelet, Missouri, 1874-1875 and 1877-1878; CBC - St. Joseph 1875-1877; Feehanville, Illinois, 1878-1879; St. Bridget's, St. Louis, Missouri, 1879-1880; St. Patrick's School in St. Joseph, Missouri, 1880-1882; St. Vincent's in St. Louis, Missouri, 1882-1884; and at Glencoe, Missouri, 1884-1886. He died at age forty-seven, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for twenty years.
