Br. Francis Xavier
Daniel Clancy was born on February 1, 1840, in Galbally, Limerick, Ireland, the son of James and Catherine McCarthy Clancy. He emigrated to the United States and at age thirty entered the Novitiate at Carondelet on August 17, 1870, where he received the habit of the Brothers on September 8th and the religious name of Brother Francis Xavier. In October of that same year he was assigned to Christian Brothers College in St. Louis but in August of 1871 he was assigned to St. John's in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He died in Chicago at age thirty four, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for only four years.
