Michael McHenry was born on January 16, 1843 in Waterford, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States and age thirty-one, on May 7, 1874, entered the Novitiate at Carondelet, Missouri. Here he received the robe and the religious name of Brother Fortunatus Javian. He was there for five months and eighteen days when he died of small pox and was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He was thirty-one years of age when he died, having been a De la Salle Christian Brother for less than six months.
