Francois Narcisse Regaud was born on February 18, 1836, at Saint Thomas, Montmagny, Canada. At the age of fourteen he sought admission to the Brothers Novitiate a Montreal and was entered on July 23, 1850. On September 8th he received the habit of the Brothers and religious name of Brother Edward. We know that he taught at a number of schools in Canada and was the Director of St. John's School at Iberville; of Troy, New York; and of Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent nine years. He was appointed Visitor of the St. Louis District in 1870 and served for five years before being transferred in 1875 to the Baltimore District where he was placed in charge of Calvert Hall College. He was called to France in 1877 and sent to St. Joseph's College, on the Island of Mauritius, where he became Sub-Director and taught English and was in charge of the upper classes at the College until his death in 1898. He died at age sixty-two, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for forty-eight years.
