Br. Dorotheus of Jesus
Thomas McGuire was born on Waterford, Ireland, in 1844. He emigrated to the United States and at age twenty-two entered the Novitiate at Carondelet, Missouri, where he received the robe and the religious name of Brother Dorotheus of Jesus. After the retreat of 1867 yellow fever regulations prevented his going to his original assignment at St. Mary's School in Galveston, Texas, so Brother Dorotheus was sent to St. Vincent's Academy in Jefferson Parish, New Orleans. There he died of the yellow fever that same year at age twenty-five, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for one year.
