Br. Christopher Brian
Michael Thomas Kavanaugh was born on August 11, 1941 in St. Paul, Minnesota and entered the Novitiate in 1959 after completing his high school education at St. Agnes High School in St. Paul. He made his first year of Scholasticate in Memphis in 1960 and from 1961 to 1963 completed his undergraduate degree at St. Mary’s College in Winona. In 1970 he received his MAT degree from St. Mary’s. His first teaching assignment was at Benilde High School in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, in 1961 but a year later was assigned to Holy Name High School in Escanaba where he remained until he was assigned to Buckman High School in Dyersville, Iowa in 1970. After five years at Buckman Brother Chris was assigned to teach at De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, Minneosta and spent ten years there before being assigned as Principal of Roncalli High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. In 1988 he was again teaching, this time at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul, Minnesota. He returned to the role of Principal in 1991 at Montini High School in Lombard, Illinois. After six years there he assumed the Principalship of St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Mississippi. After two years there Chris was assigned as assistant to the Administrative Team of the District at the Provincialate Office in Burr Ridge, Illinois. Two years later he was assigned in 2001 as assistant to the President of La Salle Manor. In 2003 he returned to Montini High School in Lombard as Director of Student Activities. He died of cancer on October 27, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois, at the age of 66, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for forty-eight years.
