John O'Connor was born in 1844 in Montreal, Canada, and at the age of fifteen, in 1859, he entered the Novitiate in Montreal, where he received the habit of the Brothers and the religious name of Brother Aurelian. He taught for the next fifteen years in Quebec, Toronto and Ottawa. He came to the United States in 1875 and taught in the St. Louis District before moving east where he was Director at La Salle Bureau and econome at Manhattan College. He died at Troy, New York, at the age of seventy-eight, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for sixty-three years.
