Br. Alexander of Jesus
Peter Delorme was born on June 28, 1827, in Montreal, Canada, where at age fifteen he entered the Montreal Novitiate of the Brothers in 1842, and where he received the habit and the religious name of Brother Alexander of Jesus. In 1848 Brother Alexander was one of four Brothers sent from Canada to New York to open an orphanage, but when negotiations failed they returned to Canada. Christian Brothers came to New York from France a year later. In 1860 Brother Alexander was transferred from St. Augustine, Florida, to open and be Director of Saint Vincent's Academy on Napoleon Avenue in Jefferson City, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. Weakened by "consumption" he died at the age of thirty-five, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for twenty years.
