Br. Justin Malachy
Edward McMahon was born on January 20, 1879, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He attended the Brothers' school there and entered the Juniorate at La Salle Institute in Glencoe, Missouri, on April 20, 1895. A year later he entered the Novitiate there and received the habit and religious name of Brother Justin Malachy. In 1897 he taught in three different schools, St. Malachy in St. Louis, Missouri; Christian Brothers College in Memphis, Tennessee; and Christian Brothers College in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1898 he was assigned to Glencoe and then to St. Michael's School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A year later he was transferred to Bernalillo, New Mexico, but in December of that year returned to St. Michael's in Santa Fe where he died at the young age of twenty-three, having been a De La Salle Christian Brother for seven years.
